After rescuing my first horse - Sioux - in 2006 from heading to auction, and purchasing my second horse - Jasper - in 2008, my quest for knowledge and information about caring for horses opened my eyes to the plight of many poor horses.

This story provided information and undercover video footage obtained in regards to the horrendous conditions of the facility, and how inhumanely the horses were treated at Nature Valley Farms in Saskatchewan.

Upon hearing this expose, and knowing how horses are often treated as work tools or avenues for financial gain, my soul was guided to action.  Unfortunately, after horses have surpassed their "prime", they are often discarded by owners - being sold or sometimes heading to auction, where the terrible outcome can be a trip to the slaughter house (for more information please see my Resources page under - Animal Welfare Organizations ).

My goal is to create a sanctuary where horses at risk of ending up as "meat horses" can receive unconditional love, medical attention, emotional rehabilitation, and hopefully find a forever home or remain with us at Stepping Stone in retirement for the rest of their days.
